The Golf Course at Adare Manor. Ryder Cup 2027.
Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s masterpiece on the historic Adare Manor estate — 7,454 yards of parkland perfection that will host the 2027 Ryder Cup. One of the great golf experiences in the world, set against a backdrop of a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle on the banks of the River Maigue.
The Golf Course at Adare Manor
The Golf Course at Adare Manor stands as one of the finest parkland layouts in the world — a spectacular collaboration between a legendary course design dynasty, an extraordinary estate and an Irish landscape of exceptional beauty. When Europe and the United States contest the 2027 Ryder Cup here in September of that year, they will do so on a course that ranks among the most visually compelling venues the event has ever visited.
The estate at Adare has a golfing history stretching back to 1900, when the original course was established within the grounds of the manor. The modern championship course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1995, quickly establishing itself as one of Ireland's premier parkland experiences.
The 2018 Robert Trent Jones Jr. Redesign
In 2014, the Adare Manor estate was purchased by JP McManus, one of Ireland's most prominent golf enthusiasts and a long-time supporter of Irish sport and charity. McManus commissioned Robert Trent Jones Jr. — son of the original architect — to undertake a comprehensive redesign of the golf course with the explicit ambition of creating a venue capable of hosting the Ryder Cup.
The redesigned course closed for construction in 2016 and reopened to considerable acclaim in July 2018. Jones Jr. added significant length — the course now stretches to 7,454 yards from the championship tees — and introduced new strategic elements throughout: wider fairways with more complex bunkering, a new routing that twice crosses the River Maigue, and upgraded greens with more subtle contour. The result was a course that retained the enchanting character of the original while meeting every requirement of a world-class championship venue.
The Course Itself
The 18 holes at Adare Manor weave through an ancient landscape of mature oak, ash and lime trees, past monastic ruins and along the banks of the River Maigue. The course plays to a par of 72 and features a balance of long par fours, demanding par threes and accessible par fives that reward strategy as much as power.
The front nine moves through the estate parkland before culminating at the river crossings — a defining section of the course where the character of Adare is most keenly felt. The back nine climbs slightly to higher ground, offering views across the estate to the manor itself, before descending back through the trees to the dramatic finishing holes beside the castle.
Conditioning is maintained to the highest possible standard throughout the year — a requirement of the manor's luxury hotel operation and its championship ambitions. Caddies are mandatory for all rounds, preserving the traditional experience and providing visitors with expert local knowledge.
The Ryder Cup Connection
The 2027 Ryder Cup will be only the third time the event has been held in Ireland and the first time it comes to Munster. Ryder Cup Europe selected Adare Manor following a competitive process that evaluated venues across Europe. The combination of course quality, estate infrastructure, hotel facilities, transport access and the passionate Irish golfing public proved decisive.
The 2006 Ryder Cup at The K Club is remembered as one of the most emotional in the event's history — Ireland's golf public proved exceptional hosts, and the expectation is that 2027 will surpass even that occasion. For Limerick and Munster, it represents the single largest sporting event the region has ever hosted.
