The Golf Course at Adare Manor

The Golf Course at Adare Manor is one of the finest parkland courses in Europe and a worthy stage for the world's greatest golf team event. Set within the magnificent grounds of the 19th-century Adare Manor estate — a Gothic Revival castle on the banks of the River Maigue — the course combines breathtaking surroundings with championship-calibre challenge.

The course was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1995. Following the purchase of the estate by JP McManus, a comprehensive redesign was undertaken by Robert Trent Jones Jr. — son of the original architect. The redesigned course reopened in July 2018 after a two-year closure, stretching now to 7,454 yards with a par of 72.

Jones Jr.'s design weaves through mature oak, ash and lime trees, crosses the River Maigue twice, and features undulating fairways framed by the estate's ancient stone walls and historic buildings. The course is considered among the most visually dramatic in the country — each hole a carefully composed picture of Irish parkland golf at its very best.

Why the Ryder Cup Chose Adare Manor

The Ryder Cup Europe's decision to award the 2027 Ryder Cup to Adare Manor was driven by several factors: the redesigned course's exceptional quality and television aesthetics, the on-site five-star hotel and infrastructure, Ireland's proven record as a Ryder Cup host nation following the success of the 2006 K Club event, and the passionate support expected from Irish and European golf fans.

The Limerick region's infrastructure — Shannon International Airport 40 minutes away, Cork Airport 90 minutes, direct rail to Limerick City — made the logistical case compelling. The event is expected to generate enormous economic benefit for the Munster region.

Match Play Format

The Ryder Cup is contested in match play format over three days. Friday and Saturday feature foursomes and four-ball matches in the morning and afternoon sessions. Sunday is singles day — 12 individual matches between Europe and USA. The winning team is the first to reach 14½ points. In the event of a tie at 14–14, the holder retains the Cup.
